Is Weopia an online dating site?
Weopia is a site for dating another person online, but it is not a traditional Internet or online dating site with a database of members and profiles. Weopia is made available to users of any and all online dating sites. You do not need to be a member of an online dating site, however. You just need a person to date with.

Weopia is not an online dating website, but it is a tool for online daters to get to know each other better. It's like a missing step to finding someone you're compatible with. With Weopia, you interact in real-time, instead of taking days or weeks to exchange messages, so you will get a much better sense of whether the person is right for you. It's also said by a Harvard/MIT study on virtual dating that it will lead to better first encounters offline, which means you'll find love faster!
Why was Weopia founded?
Weopia was developed to take the online dating industry to the next level. Weopia's goals are to help its users to go on virtual dates, similar to real life experiences, without having to meet in person just yet. It can be scary and risky to go on that first offline real life date after just chatting via your dating site's communication tools. Weopia helps you to screen through many dates in one evening, to go a little deeper in discovering your date's personality, sense of humor and likeability. Just operating the avatars together is enough to teach you more about the person. But, we have included many other things to do and, as well, we have Conversation Starters and Floating Orbs throughout the worlds to help you discover each other.
How does Weopia help me find the right person for me faster?
When using Weopia on a virtual date, you will find that you can get a much better sense of the person behind the profile by interacting in virtual worlds in real-time. This will also mean you have developed a rapport or connection, and when you find someone that you want to me offline, you'll both be more at ease and comfortable. It's like that awkward first date is out of the way. Also, those that use virtual dating are twice as likely to have a second or third date with that person due to the connection and familiarity created.
How does a virtual date work?
Weopia is meant to be a place where two people can come together in one virtual space. To accomplish this, you are required to purchase a date for two and offer a date key to your partner via your online dating site's communication tools or whatever you use to communicate. It is not necessary to give out your personal email address for this purpose. You then each download the Weopia application, which can take a few minutes depending on your internet connection speed, and launch it. You will be prompted to select a screen resolution (the lower, the faster, without much graphic degradation), then to select an avatar (your character) and enter you're email address (the email address is kept confidential and not shared with your date), and your date Passkey.
The first of the two of you will become the hosting computer for this date. If things are slow within the world, try having the other computer host by having that person enter the world first. You will both then be in the world and can do whatever you please. Although ti may sound complicated, it really isn't…explore, use the get-to-know-you prompters, fly the Humvees, drive the buggies, go in boats, sit and talk. Voice communication will be installed in the Weopia application shortly.
How long does it last?
A date in Weopia can last as long as you like. Some dates last as long as several hours, and some as short as a few minutes. It's completely up to you. You can date as many times together as you like within the time period you selected for purchase.
Is virtual dating safe?
Virtual dating in Weopia world is completely safe as long as you do not give out personal information. In fact, Weopia was created to give online daters the ability to get to know someone better prior to taking that intimidating next step to real-life dating. A Weopia date can be terminated with the click of a button.
What about my Privacy?
Weopia is a person to person (or peer to peer; P2P) application, which means it privately and securely connects you to the person you agree to meet in our virtual dating worlds. You can read about our privacy policy here.

How do I report someone acting inappropriately?
Weopia is not responsible or in anyway liable for who invites you or who you invite into the world. We cannot control who people bring into the worlds. When you are not feeling comfortable in a date, simply hit the Exit key in the Dock that pops up at the bottom of the screen. Never give out personal information to your date until you feel comfortable and have met in person. If you do not give out personal information you might be able to block the inappropriately acting person from your online dating site account, depending on your dating site's lockout options. The person cannot contact you through Weopia if you did not use personal email to provide or receive the dating Passkey.

How do I share the Weopia key with my date?
We recommend that you keep your personal identity to yourself until you feel comfortable meeting your date in person. Therefore, the best way to provide your date their personal Passkey is via your online dating website's communication tools - the ones you used to communicate with your date so far, before coming to Weopia.

It also is a good idea to keep the online dating site's communication tools in operation until you are both inside the Weopia world. That way, you can communicate to make sure the other person is there and ready to enter the world. AND, don't forget possible time zone differences when setting a date time.

How do I connect with my date to meet in the Weopia virtual world?
You first must purchase a set of date Passkeys via the Buy Now button in the Weopia website. After confirmation of your purchase, you will receive an email with two Internet links, one for you, and one to be given to your date (copy this link into your online dating site communication tool and send). Clicking on the link will give you your passkey and the Weopia download link. For your convenience you will also receive an email with your passkey and the email address you used during the purchase process. You need both to enter into a date.
Set up a time to meet (don't forget time zone differences if you are not in the same area). The first person to enter the Weopia virtual world will become the hosting computer for the date. The second person will connect via a secure connection. If the application seems to be moving too slowly, try again with the other person entering the world first. Stay in the area where you first appear in Weopia so that your date can find you. You can access the chat window to text chat with your date to see if he or she has moved away from the landing area.
What is there to do in Weopia?
The Weopia virtual world comprises a number of different worlds that can be accessed by teleporting from the map screen. The areas are fun to explore, but you don't have to walk or run. You can fly in the Humvees, drive the buggies or lawnmowers, fly in hang gliders and sail in boats. There are mountains, beaches, buildings, cafes and walkways to explore. Switch the setting to nighttime for another grand view of things.
Weopia worlds have Orbs floating just off the ground. These are good to help you to get to know your date at a deeper level. Click on the large floating TV-like Orb and it will ask you questions that spark good conversations together. Or, if you are at a loss for words at any time, click on the TOPICS button that pops up at the bottom of your screen (your date won't see it). There are over 100 ideas to scroll through that will spark conversations, and by clicking on one, it will show in the chat window for a quick send to the other person. Some Orbs offer dating advice videos that you can watch. If you want to watch them together, click the Orb links at the same time. This will launch your web browser to view the video.
How do we communicate?
You can communicate with text chat or by using Skype voice chat in addition to the Weopia application. Weopia Voice Chat within the downloaded application will be available soon. Text Chat is available from the Dock that pops up at the bottom of your screen. If using Skype, we recommend you create a new Skype account that does not contain any personal information; an account that can be deleted once you have stopped using it for online dating. A free, fully functional account can be set up at www.skype.com. Speakers and a microphone will be required and Skype use may impede the smooth play of Weopia on older, less powerful computers. How do I use Weopia's controls?
There are help screens within the Weopia application. When you arrive inworld, there is a red main help button at the top right side of the screen. As well, a series of control and Help buttons pop up in the Dock when you roll your mouse over the bottom of the screen.
How do I transport from World to World?
At the bottom of your computer screen, while in the Weopia world, you can access the Dock (Help icons, etc.) and you will find a globe icon. Click on it and a map of all of the worlds will show up. You can move around within the world you are in by clicking on the colored location dot or you can go to other worlds by clicking on the world map you desire to travel to. Once there, you can then click on the globe icon again to transport quickly around that world.
What are conversation starters?
Conversation Starters are a list of over 100 topics to spark a conversation. They are available as a pull-down menu within your Weopia world screen. Only you see them, so your date doesn't have to know where the idea came from. They range from, “What's your Perfect Day?” to “What are your major turnoffs?” to “Any tattoos or piercings?” and “What are the sexiest parts of a member of the opposite sex?” That last one, and many other such probing questions, can tell you a lot about a person, very quickly. And that's what they're there for.
What are those round coin-like things floating off the ground?
We call them "Orbs." You can click on an Orb for information and suggestions on things like dating advice, ice breakers, instructions and conversation starters.
How many virtual dates per day can I have with Weopia?
You can have as many virtual dates as you like within the period of your Passkey validation. Your virtual dates, however, must be with the same person you originally gave the email link to. That person's email is then tied to the Passkey code. So, make a date and then come back again within your purchased time period.
What if my date never shows up and won't communicate with me?
If he or she has not entered an email to get the Passkey, you may use the link you sent to him or her to send to someone else. If the Passkey is activated by the entry of an email address, that Passkey is not longer valid and is not subject to a refund. It's kind of like going to meet at the coffee shop and your date doesn't show up. You're out a coffee (and the time you spent.)
Do I get a refund if my date was obnoxious and I ended it quickly?
No, we're sorry, but you do not. In the real world, you would have had much more difficulty ending your date, so we feel that ending obnoxious dates quickly is worth the price.
Can I share my Passkey with another person after dating my first date?
No. You can have as many dates with that one person, but so as not to have the first date show up when you are in the world with the second date, we do not allow it. You must purchase another set of date Passkeys.
What information should I give out to a member?
Weopia strongly recommends that you do not share any personal information that might allow a member to contact you outside of our private communication options, unless you are completely comfortable in sharing that information with them. Weopia recommends that you go on virtual dates in the Weopia Worlds and get to know your date better before sharing any private information or deciding to meet in person. It is best that you do not share private information such as personal email address, full names, phone numbers or home or work locations until after meeting in person and deciding that you wish to continue the relationship. Members do not need your personal information to date you in Weopia or in the real world. Be careful of people who may try to scam you online. Often, scammers try to obtain your personal email or phone number so as to take the scam offline to avoid detection.
A person I chatted with in Weopia told me he needs money to get back home or to meet you. Is this be a scam?
This is very likely a scam. Weopia strongly recommends that you do not offer money to anyone you have met online. In most cases, a request for money will be a scam and you will lose your money. Please report these types of communications to Weopia through the feedback/support link. Any details you can offer like time and date are helpful.
I lost my passkey and can't find the email it was sent in.
Please go to the Feedback channel and send us the email address you purchased the Passkey with and mention that you have lost them both.

What are the system requirements?
Weopia is a 3D graphics and processing intensive application. It is available for both Windows and Mac. An application download is necessary and a fast Internet connection is required when dating in the virtual world. Windows users should be on XP, Vista or Windows 7 on a four year old or newer computer with newer graphics capabilities.. Mac users should have an Intel processor running OS X 10.4 or later. It runs on newer MacBooks but not Mac Minis due to graphics card capabilities. Weopia may work on older computers, but you may experience choppy movement, slower screen refreshes or other operational issues. We recommend at least 2 GB of RAM and 500 MB of hard disk space. The Weopia download is less than 200 MB. A gaming video graphics card is also recommended and most newer computers will have one.
Where do I download the Weopia application?
After you have purchased your date Passkeys from the Weopia website, you will be emailed two links, one for your Passkey and one for your date. Click that link and you will be presented with your Passkey code and the email address you used to purchase the Passkeys AND the download link to the Weopia application.
Weopia is running slow for me. How can I fix it?
Be sure to check the technical requirements in this FAQ. Also, if you have any additional programs running you should quit them. This includes quitting any downloads you might have running too. If your computer is up to the suggested recommendations and no other programs are running, you might consider restarting if you have not done so lately.
At times, when new screen imagery is loading into your computer, the avatar can stutter or stop. This depends on your computer's power, but it usually only lasts a second or two.
How large is the download?
Weopia comes via download from our secure servers as a Zipped file that expands after it fully downloads. The Zipped file is currently less than 200 MB and unzips to just less than 500 MB. It may grow slightly as more worlds, buildings, features and 3D assets are added.
Do I need to download anything else?
Weopia comes with the Unity player, a plug-in that is part of your virtual dating experience. You may also wish to use Skype for audio chat along with Weopia.
What if my login does not work?
Your Passkey could be expired. Did you check to see that you entered the correct email address, the one that you used in the Weopia Passkey purchase or retrieval process, and the one that shows in the email you received from Weopia with the Passkeys in it" Did you enter the Passkey code correctly? If you continue to have difficulty, please visit Weopia Feedback and see if there are any applicable answers there. You many also submit a support ticket there and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
What if I cannot enter the worlds with my date?
It is always best to run Weopia after a fresh reboot of your computer. If you cannot connect, check that you entered the correct Passkey and email address as outlined in the email sent to you. It is good to open communication with your date via your communication tools inside the online dating site that you met in. By so doing, you can prompt your date to check his or her Passkey and email address entered.
It is possible that either you or your date are behind a firewall or that your computer's communication ports are closed or taken by something else. Closed ports are common with Vista. Firewalls that block Weopia are common in business establishments. Check to ensure that your Internet connection is working. Weopia does not work with Linux or netbooks or older computers or computers with little RAM.
If you are the first to enter your Passkey and email, you will become the host computer and will be first in the world. If you do land inworld, the problem may be with your date's computer or setup or access.

Is Weopia available in other languages?
Currently, Weopia uses the English language for its Help screens and Orb information. These, however, are not required to have fun and enjoy a date in Weopia.

How much does it cost for a date in Weopia?
The introductory price for a set of Passkeys for a date for two people is $4.95, about the price of a couple of cheap coffees. At this time, one person must pay for the two passkeys. We intend to offer longer Weopia subscriptions, volume passkey purchase and the ability for each dater to pay for his/her own Passkey.
How do I pay for a date?
You can pay for your date using your credit card or your PayPal account. The "Buy Now" button will take you out of Weopia and into the secure PayPal transaction process. There, you can enter a Mastercard, Visa or American Express card number or you can enter your PayPal information and password. You will then receive an email with the date Passkeys for you and your date. Your credit card or PayPal information is not received or stored by Weopia.
Is Weopia's credit card processing secure?
Weopia does not process your payment. All credit card and PayPal payment processing and information gathering is done at the very secure and trusted PayPal website. During the transaction, you leave the Weopia site and enter the PayPal site. After your transaction is processed at PayPal, we receive a trigger from PayPal and an email containing a link back to Weopia and your Passkeys are sent to the email address you provided. Weopia never sees your credit card information. All we have of yours is the email address you provided to us.
What if I don't have a credit card?
If you do not have a credit card, you will require a PayPal account to purchase date Passkeys. A PayPal account can have a direct withdrawal option from the bank of your choice without the need for a credit card. You can set up that account here. Follow their instructions. It will require you to enter your bank information and test the process. It is quick if you have online access to your banking statements, but if you have to wait for them by mail, it can take weeks. You should be able to call or visit your bank to get the bank deposit information required to finish their security test.
Another new option, if you do not have a credit card or bank account connected to PayPal, is the MoneyPak which are available at many retailers such as Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Kmart, Meijer, 7-11's, Kroger, Rite Aid and more.
